Oustau de Altea

“Oustau” means “hostal” in Provençal French.This is one of the most emblematic restaurants in the area, located right in the historical centre, by the church, in the prettiest part of Altea.

The hundred-year-old building is divided into three different indoor areas and also has a pleasant terrace. The atmosphere is elegant with a rustic feel.

Ideal for family dinners or romantic meals for couples.

Chef Pascual Robles has been at the helm of the restaurant for more than 35 years. He specialises in meat, particularly in beef tenderloin with a variety of homemade sauces, octopus, light but tasty aperitifs, cocktails and homemade desserts.

El Xato

This restaurant has been feeding its diners for more than 100 years. The name derives from the affectionate nickname given to the soul of the restaurant, José Cano Cano.

The choices on the menu depend on the seasonal produce available, leading to innovative dishes that remain faithful to their roots, succulent and loaded with flavour. The wine cellar houses more than 1,300 different labels.

Cristina Figuiera has been head chef for 23 years, but before that she was a dental hygienist.

She learned traditional cookery from her mother-in-law and her attention was caught by gastronomy and Ferran Adrià’s new style of cuisine. With more than 20 years of experience in cookery, Figuiera insists that talent has nothing to do with gender, although she does admit that in her experience there have so far been few women involved in haute cuisine.

La Capella

Constantly evolving benchmark cuisine to offer diners their very best gastronomy and expertise.

A place of contrasts that leaves nobody indifferent, located in a family house with 300 years of history in the historical centre of Altea. There is a pretty outdoor terrace with views of Sierra de Bernia and Peñón de Ifach, and two indoor dining rooms with a rustic atmosphere to them.

There is a climate-controlled wine cellar with more than 200 labels that include everything from the classics to the very latest signature wines.

Traditional Mediterranean cuisine and rice dishes with an unmistakeable Mediterranean flavour. They provide traditional cuisine with their own special touches, more in accordance with modern tastes. Traditional dishes that have been updated, such as the Espencat with Capellán and dried octopus oil or fresh tuna with onion confit and Modena vinaigrette.

Casa del Maco

This is in fact a hotel with just four rooms located at the feet of the Sierra de Bernia. It’s surrounded by coniferous woods, vineyards, almond and olive groves and has views of the blue Mediterranean Sea. An oasis of peace.

The restaurant is one of its strong points, with a creative cuisine based on French and Belgian gastronomy combined with Mediterranean influences and employing fresh, natural and seasonal ingredients.

They have an extensive list of Spanish wines, and we recommend you also have a look at their selection of French wines.

Hannes Galle & Barbara De Vooght will welcome you for a romantic dinner, a relaxing weekend or a pleasant holiday. Everything in both the restaurant and the cosy hotel is aimed to ensure you enjoy your visit.

Abiss

Welcome to a place of unique sensations beside the beach, with incredible sea views. When you book, make sure you ask for a table by the window to really enjoy the views.

Traditional and international menu, supplemented by three tasting menus and a tapas menu.

Like all good coastal restaurants, their fish dishes consist of that day’s catch.

If you prefer meat, we recommend the Galician covered veal cheek stew with marrow and mushrooms, and truffled potato froth.

Where desserts are concerned, you should try the iced biscuit cream with chocolate financier and aromas of coffee or the crunchy chocolate slate with local orange and ice cream.

Carlos Savall is Head Chef. Trained at the best Valencian schools, he decided to focus his studies on French food culture and has now become one of the benchmark chefs in Costa Blanca. He has been cooking for more than 20 years, 8 of which he has spent at Abiss. An expert in updated traditional cookery, passion is his secret ingredient.

Orobianco

The top-notch cuisine and picture postcard views have led this Italian restaurant in Costa Blanca to triumph. It is witness to some amazing sunsets and has a beautiful panoramic view of the Peñón de Ifach.

Along with the general menu, there are 4 tasting menus to choose from. The dishes recreate Italian cuisine using the best local products (Santa Pola shrimps, Denia red prawns…) If you decide to go for a tasting menu it’s best to allow at least an hour and a half to fully enjoy the experience.

You can also stay the night by booking the Gastropack in advance. This experience combines a tasting menu with accommodation for two people.

Head Chef Ferdinando Bernardi was born in Rimini (Emilia-Romaña, Italy.) He grew up in the kitchen at his father’s restaurant and was put in charge of the pizzeria at the age of 13.

In 2015 he embarked upon the Orobianco project with Croatti. The aim was to bring their idea of Italian haute cuisine to Spanish grounds. They were awarded their first Michelin star in November 2018.

Heguer Castellanos is the maître-sommelier. A certified sommerlier with the Alicante Chamber of Commerce and WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) level 2, Castellanos combines his expertise and savoir faire in recommending the best wines with his dining room management skills.

Audrey´s by Rafa Soler

To enter Audrey’s is to enter one of the best hotels in Costa Blanca: AR Diamante Beach. As you may have guessed, it is a little nod at Audrey Hepburn’s legendary film.

The restaurant is a welcoming, modern space where chef Rafa Soler offers an evolved Valencian cuisine which is very creative in its forms and techniques but remains faithful to the best local products.

The dishes reveal a Mediterranean soul and personality. They experiment with the products from the local larder while adding a global vision, resulting in an original fusion between tradition and sophistication.

Komfort

As can be gathered from its name, Komfort stands up for a comfortable, friendly, approachable cuisine like that one could find at home but with creative, masterful touches that make it different and appetising.

Located on the outskirts of Calpe, in Marisol Park residential complex, it is part of The Cook Book gastro hotel, which also houses Beat restaurant (which we describe below.)

It is a modern, bistro-style place with large windows, naked tables of different heights and a plethora of different lamps that define the restaurant’s personality.

Well-made traditional and international cuisine based on top quality products and presented with painstaking attention to detail.

Beat

Also located within The Cook Book gastro hotel, this restaurant seeks the “gastronomic heartbeat”.

Light premises, decorated predominantly in white, that reflect the essence of the Mediterranean and serve as the setting for what will prove to be a great culinary experience.

Faultless products and a coherence that leads the flavours to reinforce each other. There are three tasting menus based on Mediterranean products and influenced by the seasons. The wine cellar offers a selection of more than 300 national and international labels.

With more than 20 years of experience, Valencian chef José Manuel Miguel leads this restaurant and pursues his sole goal of being happy in the kitchen.

His most famous creations include: melon soup with a touch of spice, ‘bomba’ rice with sea cucumber, pig’s trotter stew and pickled quail with smoked eels, beetroot and goat’s cheese.

La Perla de Jávea

A family business with incredible views, located right on the seafront promenade.

This restaurant first opened in 1984. Since then, the cuisine has evolved towards a commitment to fresh, local, good quality products with technique merely a tool with which to enhance them.

The restaurant is managed by Vicky, and Sonia and Sergio, the founders’ children, are in charge of the kitchen.

They offer traditional cuisine and specialise in rice dishes, with up to 14 different varieties, and fish from the market. They visit the Jávea fish market every week to stock up their kitchen with the best ingredients.

The wine cellar includes more than 125 different labels.

BonAmb

This restaurant’s name expresses its intention to invite diners to enjoy not just the food and drink but also the unbeatably great atmosphere.

Surprising to the eye, it is housed in an old, restored country home with magnificent surrounding gardens.

Subtle, striking and sometimes very original dishes are served at BonAmb, which aims to reveal the traditions and culinary history of the Jávea and Marina Alta area to its diners, placing them in the worthy position they deserve.

Both the restaurant and its chef Alberto Ferruz and head waiter Pablo Català have received awards, such a leading position in the Valencian Region’s gastronomy yearbook, an award to professionalism in the dining room and the Gastronomy Academy’s best chef of the year award.

When you book, you will be asked for your credit card details and if you cancel at the last moment or fail to turn up, a charge of 25 € per head will be made.

Those wishing to visit the restaurant in 2020 will have to wait until February, as it will remain closed in January and December.

Sand

This restaurant, with a distinctly modern, urban character of its own, is located just steps from l’Ampolla beach.

It’s a place you really have to visit. A place to enjoy anything from a drink to a breakfast, a nice creamy rice dish or a paella.

The menu is very varied, with a cuisine based on fresh products and classical dishes: tempura of Moraira red mullets, shoulder of suckling lamb, dry or creamy rice dishes and their famous hot orange cake.

The key here is to enjoy the experience provided by the professional kitchen and waiting staff. A team of young, motivated professionals who delight their clients.

A unique experience beside the Mediterranean. Territory, sensitivity, technique, pleasure… one of the best restaurants in the world.
There are no long waiting lists here, it’s easy to get a table despite its three Michelin stars. The geographical location doesn’t help, nor does Denia’s seasonal nature, however Dacosta remains loyal to his project, his dream, his restaurant.
The aesthetics of his dishes are one of his identifying marks and could be classed as the link between the different stages he has been through during his professional career.
His marvellous creations include: cream of sea urchin roe and fermented tomato, serviette cheese (accompanied in winter by winter truffles), velvet rice with refined aromas, slice of dried tomato and rice vinegar, anglerfish liver with dried sage garum, prawn fosil and Denia red prawns.

The menu changes and adapts to the seasons to ensure every product served is at its best.

Quique Dacosta is originally from Extremadura and was adopted by Valencia. Born in 1972, his professional career as a chef began in 1986.

El Portal

This is a restaurant, tavern, tapas joint, wine and cocktail bar all rolled into one. The kitchen is open all day, and the venue is open every day of the week.
High quality products, unerring recipes, excellent food and service, great wine cellar and freedom to eat in many different ways and at any time of day. Sergio Sierra is partner and head chef. Of the 120 dishes available, make sure you try the Russian salad, the sardine sandwich, the beef roll, the meatballs, the scrambled eggs with sea anemone or the rice with Denia red prawns.
Wine is a vital part of the experience, with more than 300 labels dispensed by eight sommeliers. There is also a cocktail bar managed by eight bartenders. At night, popular DJs play music from the 70s, 80s, 90s as well as contemporary tunes.
