Although Costa Blanca is not a particularly cold place, in the winter electricity bills and spending on fossil fuels such as gas or gasoil used for heating increase inevitably.

These bills can be reduced by installing an aerothermal heat pump, which is also a sustainable energy source.

What is aerothermal energy?

It’s a modern, highly efficient system of complex internal functions. We don’t want to bore you with technical details, but we do want to explain what it is and how you can make the most of it.

This system draws energy from the air to cover your home’s heating, air conditioning and hot water requirements.

AerothermalHeat pumps are more efficient in the Mediterranean area than in other, colder climates. The milder the weather, the smaller the difference between indoor and outdoor temperatures, making it much easier for the system to heat a room.

Benefits of aerothermal energy systems

  • It’s a much cleaner and healthier energy. It doesn’t emit CO2 as it draws the majority of the energy from the air (though it does also use electricity).
  • It saves costs due to its high efficiency and performance levels, as it uses the heat already in the air to generate energy.
  • Lower maintenance costs.
  • It removes the need to store fuel such as petrol, natural gas or carbon, eliminating the risks involved and freeing up storage space.
  • It can be used both in winter and summer because it produces heating and air conditioning.
  • Simple to install and maintain, it adapts to all sorts of spaces and locations.
  • It works with different heating elements that are already in place: radiators, under-floor heating, etc. So swapping a conventional boiler for an aerothermal system means you can keep your heating elements.
  • It can be installed both in new properties and during renovation projects.
  • It’s the most efficient alternative to traditional boilers.

Aerothermal energy saves money

The only drawback to changing to an aerothermal system is the installation costs. You’ll have to meet an initial outlay to install the system. However, your investment will be worth it as you’ll quickly recover what you spend through savings on bills from the very first month.

Heating is responsible for almost half a home’s energy consumption, and aerothermal heating is 25% cheaper than gas.

Of the different types of electric heating, the heat pump is the most adequate according to the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE).

The heat pump is a system which is up to 5 times more efficient than an individual heating system. Energy consumption is 30% lower than with other heating/air conditioning systems.

Aerothermal

Almost every heating manufacturer offers this type of product, but we recommend one in particular:  Altherma, by Daikin. Why?

  • It provides a high performance of 400%. While a gasoil boiler provides 85%, a conventional gas boiler 89% and a condensation gas boiler 107%.

Aerothermal

  • It can be combined with thermal solar panels. The sun provides between 30 and 70% of the energy required to produce enough hot water for an individual home. Thermal solar energy for hot water production can result in energy consumption savings of up to 80%.
  • It only takes 1 kilowatt of electricity to provide between 3 and 5 kilowatts of heat within your home. This makes it the cheapest and simplest option compared to the other alternatives on the market.
  • There’s no need to dig or do any building work to install it. The exterior unit can be easily fitted on the outside of any property, even flats or apartments. This is not the case with other brands.
  • Guarantee. Daikin has more than 50 years of experience in manufacture of heat pumps and they supply more than a million of these units per year.
