Every year, hundreds of beaches in Spain are recognised by the European Foundation for Environmental Education with the “Blue Flag” award. In 2022, a total of 621 Spanish beaches, 6 more than the previous year, have been fortunate enough to receive this important recognition, which makes Spain the undisputed leader in the number of blue flags worldwide.

Cala Baladrar new blue flag in Benissa Costa

Cala Baladrar, new blue flag in Benissa Costa

This small paradise on the Costa Blanca has joined Spain’s 621 blue flag beaches this year, and with good reason. Cala Baladrar has a great scenic beauty, combining pine-covered cliffs with one of the most spectacular crystal clear waters in the area, making it one of the best beaches in Benissa Costa. With these amazing features, who wouldn’t want to dive into its clean and warm waters?

In addition, this beach has abundant marine flora and fauna, which makes it an ideal place for diving lovers.

In Cala Baladrar you can also enjoy a refreshing drink on a hot day, a snack with exquisite Mediterranean dishes or a delicious paella in its beach bar, located under its amazing pine forest.

If you are looking for activities in Cala Baladrar, from here you can reach the ecological walk, a spectacular nature trail that sticks to the sea almost all along its route and connects the most spectacular coves and beaches of the coast of Benissa to the largest beaches of Calpe. Along the way you will find several restaurants in case you need to take a break on your journey, as well as passing through well-known residential areas such as Baladrar, La Fustera or Les Bassetes.

Benissa Costa, the area where this wonderful and quiet cove is located, is the perfect setting to live and enjoy incredible temperatures all year round. This area combines beautiful green landscapes covered with pine trees, fruit trees, olive and almond trees, as well as vineyards; with the most transparent waters of the Mediterranean.

A unique and very characteristic feature especially on the coast of Benissa and Calpe, but also of Moraira, are the short distances from the residential areas to the coves or beaches of the region.

In addition, the town planning regulations prevent overcrowded construction here. Residential urbanism with detached villas with large plots and gardens predominates here, making it an ideal place to buy your second home and enjoy all the benefits offered by a magnificent place like the Costa Blanca. That is why at Jetvillas we offer you the best luxury villas, as well as plots to build on. We take care of all the administrative and legal procedures, so that you only have to worry about living the best time of your life.

What are blue flags

What are blue flags?

This recognition was created in 1985 by the European Foundation for Environmental Education in order to recognise beaches that meet a series of different criteria. In Spain, the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC) is responsible for assessing and awarding these blue flags.

Four groups of criteria are assessed:

  • Information and environmental education. Beaches should have information panels, taking into account coastal ecosystems and nearby protected natural areas, where available.
  • Water quality. This group is divided into two criteria. Firstly, the quality of bathing water must be excellent, in accordance with the Bathing Water Quality Directive. This is determined through regular water samples that determine the quality of the water. Secondly, it must comply with the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive.
  • Environmental management. In this case, the beach must meet the environmental legislation and the Coastal Law in force. In addition to this, it must have public toilets.
  • Safety and services. These beaches must have safe and easy access and, in the case of urban beaches, they must be accessible for people with disabilities. On the other hand, the beach must have an adequate lifeguard team and equipment.
